Porcelain Veneers

What a veneer actually is

A veneer is a thin shell of porcelain, roughly the thickness of a contact lens, bonded permanently to the visible surface of a tooth. It changes colour, shape, length and apparent alignment without moving the tooth itself. Because it is porcelain rather than composite, it resists staining and holds its polish for years rather than months.

Designed before it is prepared

Photographs, a digital scan and facial measurements come first. The case is mapped against your midline, smile line, golden-ratio tooth widths and gingival zenith points, and you approve that design before any preparation begins. This is the difference between teeth that are merely white and teeth that look like they were always yours.

How much natural tooth is removed

It depends on the case. Correcting colour alone can need almost no reduction; closing a wide gap or rebuilding worn edges needs more. The rule we work to is to remove as little as the result allows — enamel you keep is enamel you never have to replace.

When veneers are the wrong answer

Not every smile needs them. Composite bonding can close small gaps and repair chips in a single visit, with less cost and less tooth reduction. Whitening alone may be enough when the shape is already good. Crowding is often better corrected with aligners first, so that fewer veneers — or none — are needed afterwards. You will be told when a smaller treatment gives you the same result.

Questions

Questions patients ask

How much do veneers cost in New Cairo?

Veneer pricing depends on how many teeth are treated, the material chosen and whether any preparatory treatment is needed first. After your consultation you receive a written plan with a fixed total rather than an open-ended estimate. Send a photo of your smile on WhatsApp for an initial indication.

How long do porcelain veneers last?

Well-made porcelain veneers typically last ten to fifteen years or more, provided you maintain good hygiene, attend regular check-ups, and wear a night guard if you grind your teeth.

Does getting veneers hurt?

Preparation is carried out under local anaesthetic, so the appointment itself is not painful. Mild sensitivity to hot and cold for a few days afterwards is normal and settles on its own.

How many veneers will I need?

It depends on how many teeth are visible when you smile and talk. Six to ten on the upper arch is common, but the number is decided by your smile line, not by a formula — you will see it in the design before you agree to anything.

Do porcelain veneers stain?

Porcelain does not absorb stain the way natural enamel and composite do, so coffee, tea and smoking affect it far less. The bonding margins can pick up staining over several years, which is managed at routine cleaning appointments.

Can veneers be removed later?

Because preparation removes a small amount of enamel, veneers are a long-term commitment — at the end of their life they are replaced rather than simply taken off. Minimal-preparation cases are more reversible, and which category yours falls into is explained before you commit.
